Class starting 8/22, 6 weeks, 9 am

Reservation required, spots are limited.

Cost

$199

per puppy with 1 handler. S.T.A.R. Puppy Certificate Included

The S.T.A.R. Puppy program is a 6 week course which focuses on all the things every puppy and owner need to have a great start together.

STAR stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and a Responsible owner and in six weeks of STAR puppy classes, puppies and dogs learn the following behaviors and skills.

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy prepares pups to move on to Canine Good Citizen training. For example, in STAR, puppies must walk on a leash in a straight line. In CGC, the task becomes more advanced with dogs walking in a pattern that includes right and left turns and stops.

The skills in AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy classes are practical and functional. Teaching puppies to tolerate grooming, handling, and basic exams of the ears, feet, and mouth will result in well-mannered puppies that veterinarians are happy to see.

Canine Good Citizen

Class starting 8/22, 6 weeks, 10:30am

Reservation required, spots are limited.

Cost

$199

per puppy with 1 handler. CGC Test Included

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class builds upon the foundational skills acquired in the S.T.A.R. Puppy Class, culminating in the CGC test.

The CGC program consists of a 10-skill test designed to teach dogs good manners and promote responsible ownership for their handlers. CGC is available to all dogs, whether purebred or mixed breed, with no age restrictions for participation. After all, it’s never too late for an old dog to learn new tricks!

Engaging in CGC training will strengthen the bond between you and your dog, creating a more connected team. You’ll both learn essential training basics and master additional skills.

Earning the CGC title is often a prerequisite for various therapy dog certifications and serves as an excellent introduction to more advanced dog sports and activities.

AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program

Creekside Pet Boarding proudly incorporates the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program goals in all our foundational classes.

CGC is a ten-skill training program that focuses on teaching the basics of good manners, obedience, and how to behave appropriately in the community. By instilling the values of responsible ownership, CGC strengthens the bond between you and your dog in the home and the community. Over one million dogs and their owners have participated in CGC training, and it lays the foundation for more advanced obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events.

The Practical Benefits:

The time it takes to train establishes a meaningful way to communicate with your dog and is the very best way to solidify a lifelong bond. Beyond the bonding, CGC helps you master cues such as the sit, down, stay, and more. The goals include good behavior with crowds, the veterinarian, a groomer, strangers, and other dogs. The CGC title is often a prerequisite for many therapy dog certifications and people are finding that it is easier to get into rental properties with a CGC title. Recently some homeowners’ and other insurance programs offer discounts for “Canine Good Citizen” dogs.

Creekside joins AKC in making “Canine Good Citizens” for life!
